About SOTUS

Return to 4 years ago, that time I passed the admission examination at college of nursing. Of course, I’m so proud, happy, and delightful at that time. The first day of class, all of thing are complete. I'm happy with the course. That's because I liked to learn about the human body or biology. I expected that I will be happy to study here. But it is not. Why! Because that evening, the senior called freshmen to come together and went into the conference room. When to enter, all senior sat around the room then shout, abuse and made me feel bad. Then they called for this activity almost every day. And I found the senior in here had a power more than the teacher. Example, if senior let you do something. You must do it. Actually, it has a lot of details. After that, I went to talk to the teacher why are there such activities? Teacher said, it had been a long time. It is training for tolerance to pressure in the future work. It’s nonsense, absurd, and ridiculous for me. And this is the memory between me and that place. 

Over a year, one more time I passed the admission examination at Kasetsart University. This time, I didn’t intend to participate in the New Student Orientation of the faculty. Because I've met this incident in the past. At that time, I would not have a friend. Just because I didn’t attend the event. I’m pretty confused. What is the purpose of this activity? And this is SOTUS or New Student Orientation that I have met. Originally used this system in military training. But later, this system applied to a new student in university. What is the SOTUS in university? SOTUS stands for S-Seniority. Seniority is not to be a freshmen. All the freshmen is forced to respect all elder than oneself. Because the freshmen have little knowledge and experience, they should have to be humble. I want you to try thinking, respect because of respect or respect for fear. O-Order, when many people come together. There must be rules of the society. No matter what they ordered, you must do everything. Don’t complain, don’t argue and don’t dispute. I want you to try thinking, everyone has their own rights. But who are you come to violate our rights. T-Tradition, tradition means the good things inherit from generation to generation. Really!! I want you to try thinking. If it's good, why force? For what? U-Unity is the same goal. University is a place full of knowledge. Different ideas can lead to better things. But the SOTUS system can’t do anything different from the others. It will cause you to be punished and no friends. It doesn’t make sense for me. And the last alphabet is S-Spirit, It means generous. Generous is the good things and should not be forced. But when people don’t attend the orientation activity. They were condemned as selfish, didn’t love friends and not tolerance. Now, there are many laws about the New Student Orientation. But these laws do not work. Actually I think this problem can be solved without the law. It starts with taking into account the rights and freedoms of oneself and the others. Everyone must dare to fight for the unreasonable with reason. We must accept the difference of people. Because everyone is different. Until now, I have never seen any country in the world that developed using this system. How about you? What do you think?
